FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 8, 2025
Elk Rapids, MI – April 8, 2025 – Paddle Antrim is excited to announce the addition of two new board members, Steve Sutton and Haley Breniser, along with recent leadership transitions on its Board of Directors. These changes reflect the organization’s continued growth and commitment to connecting people to the water while protecting the Chain of Lakes Water Trail and surrounding natural resources.
Mindy Theis has been appointed President of Paddle Antrim’s Board of Directors. Theis has served on Paddle Antrim’s board since 2017 in various roles including secretary and vice president. She has over a decade of experience in human resources and leadership roles and currently serves as the Human Resources Director for TC Foods Inc. and Grandview Restaurants Inc. in Traverse City.
Sue Haadsma-Svensson has stepped into the dual role of Vice President and Treasurer. A retired medicinal chemist and certified project manager, Sue spent 30 years in drug discovery and development before retiring to her beloved Clam Lake home with her husband, Kjell. She is a Master Gardener and dedicated volunteer, lending her time to several local nonprofits and leading the invasive species team for Friends of Glacial Hills.
Joining the board are two new directors:
Steve Sutton, a retired natural resource analyst with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, brings decades of experience in sand dune protection, soil erosion, natural rivers, and public land policy. Based near Bellaire, he’s a committed community volunteer involved with the Glacial Hills, Antrim County’s Community Emergency Response Team, and Help From My Friends Pet Crisis Center. Steve is happiest chasing big fish, hiking, and mountain biking with his wife Cheryl—and their many cats and dog.
Haley Breniser is an environmental advocate, retired organic farmer, and seasoned nonprofit leader with over 20 years of work in conservation and community engagement. A graduate of Michigan State University in Environmental Studies, she has worked from the rainforests of Maui to the waters of Northern Michigan. She co-founded Undertoe Farm LLC and most recently served as Executive Director of the Walloon Lake Association and Conservancy. Haley brings a deep commitment to freshwater protection and a belief in the power of paddle sports to inspire environmental stewardship.
“We’re incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated, talented board guiding Paddle Antrim,” said Deana Jerdee, Executive Director of Paddle Antrim. “Mindy and Sue provide steady and thoughtful leadership, and we’re thrilled to welcome Steve and Haley—both of whom bring valuable perspectives and a strong connection to our region and mission.”
