Walk Of Art (WOA)Sculpture Park Coordinator position

Beginning in 2013, this 13-acre sculpture park along the shores of East Grand Traverse Bay has been the responsibility of Art Rapids in Elk Rapids, Michigan. This non-profit organization offers a contractual, mostly seasonal, coordinators position that plays a crucial role in maintaining the artistic vision of the park.
The ideal candidate will have an appreciation for art in natural settings, with a commitment to their care and conservation. They will possess leadership skills, the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, and a flexible, problem-solving mindset to navigate the unique challenges presented by each project. This position is essential for maintaining the high standards WOA, ensuring that it continues to serve as a welcoming space for diverse social engagement through art and nature.

Responsibilities:                   

  • Initiates recruitment annually through various resources to attract new entries
  • Coordinates jury selection and serves as the main contact person for all artist participants. Contract completion and communication regarding placement, signage, time frames, stipend payment, etc.
  • Oversees installs/de-installs of sculptures in collaboration with the artist, Elk Rapids Day Park staff, Antrim County Parks and Recreation.
  • Responsible to relay all marketing info/updates to website manager (artists bios, sculpture photos, removal of departing entries, park map annual update)
  • Collaborative relationship with Art Rapids board, volunteers, contractors
  • Keeper of all Walk of Art files relevant to current artists in the park. Basic computer skills required.
Desired Wish List:
  • Applicant resides within a one-hour travel distance from the Walk of Art Park.  
  • Experience working with artists and non-profit organizations.
  • Basic knowledge/skills in areas including carpentry, woodworking, and metal, in regard to construction a plus, not mandatory.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with colleagues, vendors, artists, and partners.
  • Contractual salary- $30.00 hourly – 150 + hours annually, may vary.
