Public Forum on Sanitary Code Changes and Septic System Oversight Sponsored by Elk Rapids Village Planning Commission
A public forum sponsored by the Village of Elk Rapids Planning Commission will highlight proposed changes to the Sanitary Code and options for providing septic system oversight. The Health Department of Northwest Michigan and Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council are partners in a grant project, funded by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, to focus on these issues. They will each provide speakers for the forum on Tuesday, October 25, 6 p.m. at the Village Hall. The Watershed Center Grand Traverse Bay will present this program for the community. Scott Kendzierski, Health Department Director of Environmental Health Services, will do a presentation about proposed changes to our Sanitary Code. Grenetta Thomassey, Program Director for Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council, will present information about a new report, specifi c to Antrim County. The report reviews state and local statistics related to septic system use, and presents a menu of Policy Options for decision makers and the public to consider. The options presented include the Advantages and Disadvantages of: Maintain the Status Quo, Time of Transfer ordinances, Mandatory Pumping ordinances, and Mandatory Inspection ordinances. Hard copies of the report will be available at the forum. Christine Crissman, Executive Director of the Watershed Center Grand Traverse Bay will emcee the event.
