Blacksmithing Class offered at Historic Samels Farm
An Introduction to Blacksmithing class will be presented by Historic Samels Farm volunteer Ted Ewald on Saturday, April 26 from 8:30 a.m. to Noon at the Farm Blacksmith Shop located at 8298 Skegemog Point Rd., Williamsburg, MI 49690. The objective of this program will be to introduce basic skills of blacksmithing and provide early 1900s view of a blacksmith shop. The following topics will be discussed and demonstrated will be Safety, Project Planning, Fire Building, Heating Steel, Shaping Techniques, Bending Techniques, Twisting Techniques, Cutting Techniques, and High Carbon Steel Heat Treating Techniques. This will be a “hands on” program and all attendees will go home with a hand forged item that they create. Please bring safety glasses, older work clothes, and sensible shoes.
