Description
The Home Builders Association of the Grand Traverse Area is holding their 2nd Annual HBA Scholarship Dinner on October 26th at the Hagerty Center. John Courson, President and CEO of the Home Builders Institute in Washington DC is the Keynote Speaker, presenting on workforce development and solutions that can be implemented on a local level to help solve the skilled worker shortage. His message will also include local economic impact statistics. HBI is the national leader for career training in the building industry, working with local areas to implement training programs.
During our 1st annual event last September, we met our goal of bringing an awareness of the lack of skilled labor in Northern Michigan and the economic impact it has on our community, and raised $7,000.00 in scholarship funding. This year, our message is about what we are going to do as a community to grow the labor force through Workforce Development. The skilled trades are vital to our state’s economy, playing an instrumental role in producing some of our state’s most important products – homes being one of them. As building permits and home values continue to increase, the immediate demand for skilled workers is increasing as well.
100% of Silent Auction proceeds fund scholarships. In addition to numerous silent auction items, the local Professional Women in Building Council is constructing an 8 X 10 customized child’s Playhouse, to be auctioned off at the event. Every parent and grandparent will be bidding on this!
The community’s attendance will help the HBAGTA continue their mission in working closely with educators and students to develop the local workforce, and fund scholarships for people that have chosen to make skilled trades their career choice.
Reservations can be made by contacting the HBA office at 231-946-2305.
