Description
Join Kathie Wiley with Grand Traverse Audubon Club as a citizen scientist to help identify birds and tally them for Cornell University & the National Audubon on Global Big Day 2026.
What to Bring: Binoculars if you have them and good walking shoes.
Where We'll Walk: Start at the Gazebo near Edward C. Grace Memorial Harbor. Look for any ducks such as: Mergansers, Tree Swallows, and Chimney Swift. Walk towards the library to look for Warblers such as: Yellow Warblers, Gray Catbirds, and Warbling Vireos.
Walk to the south side of the library and cross the Library Bridge over the Elk River walking towards the Elk Rapids Community Housing listening for birds such as: Chipping Sparrows and Pine Warblers.
Along the way expect to hear/see American Redstarts and perhaps a Black-throated Green Warbler or Ovenbird.
If you have a chance look up the birds mentioned for both their markings and their call before the hike.
Pregistration is preferred.
