Description
The Music House welcomes Detroit Tigers and Red Wings organist Dave Calendine accompanying Charlie Chaplin’s Gold Rush, Saturday July 19 August at 7:00PM
The Music House is proud to welcome back Detroit Tigers and Red Wings organist Dave Calendine on Saturday July 19 at 7:00PM accompanying the classic silent film Gold Rush with Charlie Chaplin on our Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ.
The Gold Rush is a 1925 American silent comedy film written, produced, and directed by Charlie Chaplin. Chaplin drew inspiration from photographs of the Klondike Gold Rush. In the movie, gold prospector Big Jim finds an enormous gold deposit on his parcel of land when a blizzard strikes. A Lone Prospector (Chaplin) gets lost in the same blizzard while also prospecting for gold. He stumbles into the cabin of Black Larsen, a wanted criminal. Larsen tries to throw the Prospector out when Jim also stumbles inside. Larsen tries to scare both out using his shotgun but is overpowered by Jim, and the three agree to a truce allowing them all to stay in the cabin.
The Gold Rush was critically acclaimed upon its release and continues to be one of Chaplin's most celebrated works.
Dave Calendine is an amazingly talented organist and pianist and a great entertainer. A resident of the Detroit area, Dave is one of two organists for The Detroit Red Wings and Tigers, is the staff organist at The Fox Theater, has accompanied the Rockettes in both Detroit and New York, performs at The Redford Theater and at his church as, well as concerts at the Sanfilippo Foundation in Illinois, and at the national Music Box Society International conventions. Calendine is also the past President of the American Theatre Organ Society (ATOS).
Tickets can be purchased for $25.00 at MyNorth Tickets and for $30.00 at the door. Go to musichouse.org for more information.
