Captivating promotional materials and engaging blog posts are every business owner's dream. Unfortunately, high school and college English classes don't teach the skills and tricks needed to create motivating brochures, pamphlets, and web sites. Plus, most business owners are too busy running their businesses to take a semester-long writing class.
That's why Karin Beery, owner of Write Now Editing and Copywriting Services, is teaching "Content Writing for Business," a two-hour copywriting class through Northwest Michigan College's Extended Education Services.
"Most business owners understand why it's important to hire an accountant to handle their books, so they plan for that expense," said Beery. "They don't fully realize how important their website content is though, so they write it themselves. It can work, the same way it can work to do your own accounting, but when you hire a professional writer – like hiring an accountant – you get the specialized skill-set that takes your business to the next level. Unfortunately, not many business owners can afford to hire a professional, and they definitely don't have time to sit in on weekly classes."
"Content Writing for Business" will condense years of copywriting training into two hours, focusing specifically on the basics of writing effective press releases, captivating blog posts, professional quality biographies, and promotional materials that motivate clients to action. The class will be offered Tuesday, March 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the NMC University Center, room 209. Cost is $39 to attend. To register, call 231-995-1700, or visit www.nmc.edu.
