Sponsored by the Elk Rapids Women
The Elk Rapids Women are hosting a Community Organization Fair next month to make it easier for people in the area to learn about local service and non-profit groups and how to get involved.
“For the past year or so, people have been asking me what the Elk Rapids Women do,” said Karin Beery, event co-chair. “These community members want to get more involved, but they’re not sure where to start or which groups they want to join.” When the Elk Rapids Rotary asked if they could send a representative to an Elk Rapids Women’s meeting to talk about what they do, it sparked the idea for the Community Organization Fair.
We’re bringing representatives from several groups together at one place, at one time, so residents can take one night to find out about the many different ways to volunteer in Elk Rapids,” said Beery. “Each group will have information available, as well as a representative on hand who will give a brief presentation and answer questions. We just wanted to make it easier for people to find out what’s happening in Elk Rapids and how they can be a part of it.”
Participating groups include: Art Rapids, the Lions Club, Rotary, Elk Rapids History Museum, Elk Rapids Players, the Garden Club, Green Elk Rapids, and the AMVETS Auxiliary.
The Community Organization Fair will be Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Historic Elk Rapids Town Hall, 401 River Street, from 6-8 p.m. Admission is free. Light snacks and a cash bar will be available. For more information, contact Karin Beery at 231-350-0226 or elkrapidswomen@gmail.com.
