Boating Safety Classes
Description
The Antrim County Sheriff’s Office is offering a free boater safety course and exam as part of the “Boat Smart, Boat Safe, Boat Legal” Training Initiative. The course with exam and certification is offered at no cost to students. There are on-line boating safety courses and exams in which individuals can get their Boating Safety Certificate for a fee.
One class will be held on April 14, 2018 at Elk Rapids High School from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided by Elk-Skegemog Lake Association (ESLA). The course is approximately 4.5 hours with an additional 60-90 minute period for the exam and awarding of the Boating Safety Certificates.
ESLA supports such activities because knowledgeable boat and personal watercraft operators are key to the safe and enjoyable use of our county’s water resources.
Other programs will be held on April 7 at Mancelona High School, April 21 at Bellaire High School and April 28 at Central Lake High School.
Students should register at their respective high school office, where they can receive the pre-study Michigan course book, “A Course on Responsible Boating.” In addition, there will be discussion on local Antrim County rules, regulations, and best boating practices. The course is conducted by MDNR certified Boating Safety Instructors and Antrim County, Sheriff’s Office, Marine Patrol.
