Description
Since the passage of the Fair Housing Act in 1968, municipalities and public housing authorities that receive federal funding for housing and community development have had an obligation to expand access to opportunity by both tackling segregation and investing in communities that have been left behind. This provision of the law – known as Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) – recognizes that where you live determines the opportunities you have access to, including education, employment, transportation, health care, and much more. In July, the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) published a new, final rule on Affirmatively Further Fair Housing. This rule provides HUD’s grantees greater clarity and guidance, as well as considerable data and mapping tools, to help communities meet long-standing fair housing obligations in the use of HUD funds. The AFFH Rule applies to public housing authorities, and cities, counties and states that receive entitlement funds under four HUD programs: CDBG, ESG, HOME, and HOPWA. Please join us for a FREE training on HUD’s new Affirmatively Further Fair Housing (AFFH) Rule featuring a presentation by Debby Goldberg, Vice President of Housing Policy & Special Projects at the National Fair Housing Alliance. This training will help attendees better understand the history and purpose of the AFFH requirement as well as the key features and new requirements of the Final AFFH rule.
