The Music House is proud to welcome back Detroit Red Wings organist Dave Calendine on Friday, August 7 at 7:00 p.m. for a live accompaniment of classic Buster Keaton and Laurel and Hardy silent film shorts on the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ.
One of the films Dave will accompany is the 1922 silent short comedy The Electric House. In the film, Buster Keaton plays a botany student who is accidentally mistaken for an electrical engineer and gets hired to wire a rich man’s home with an array of wild, time-saving gadgets. In the other movie, Bacon Grabbers, the novice repo men, Stan and Ollie, are sent to serve a summons to a tough customer who hasn’t paid for a radio, as canines, a rifle, and a steamroller threaten to put an end to their ambitions. Just how hard is it to get the job done?
Dave Calendine is an accomplished organist, pianist, and entertainer. A resident of Detroit, he is one of the organists for the Detroit Red Wings, is house organist at the Fox Theatre, and has been one of the organists for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular featuring the Rockettes. He has performed across the United States and overseas. He has presented concerts for the Sanfilippo Foundation in Illinois, and for several meetings of chapters of the Musical Box Society International. Calendine is also the past president and current treasurer of the American Theatre Organ Society (ATOS) and is on the board of directors for the Musical Box Society
International (MBSI).
