In this all day class paddlers will focus on boat control, safety, and building confidence. You will learn fundamental safety skills and stroke enhancements that will help you turn better and travel forward with less energy expended. Other skills will include basic rescues, edging, and beginning bracing. You’ll also be introduced to “risk management” as it relates to sea kayaking in the places you plan to play. Course Covers: boat control – stroke enhancement, edging/stability, capsize prevention – bracing, moving sideways – draws & sculling, and rescue techniques Participants must be at least 14 years old and meet the ACA eligibility requirements. Participants must bring the following equipment: sit-in kayak with 2 bulkheads, paddle, pfd (life jacket). Also required is a spray skirt, bilge pump, and a paddle float. Note: For this class only, there are limited kayaks available for use by participants. If you do not have a kayak, please contact us and the instructor may be able to provide gear for this course. All classes are taught by ACA (American Canoe Association) certified instructors. Class size is limited with a 5:1 maximum student to teacher ratio. Classes are non-refundable.
