The community liaison role was created to ensure the mission and impact of Norte Youth Cycling carries forward in a consistent and impactful manner across northern Michigan. The community liaison will serve as an employee and representative of Note Youth Cycling. This individual will deliver Norte cycling-related programming and outreach initiatives in a manner that uniquely supports the needs of the specified community they serve. These efforts will support riders of all ages and abilities and encourage physical activity and social connectedness.
Norte Community Liaison - Part-time Position Overview
- Ensure all programs and outreach support within Elk Rapids align with the Norte mission, vision, and values
- Engage and welcome volunteers, program participants, and coaches
- Develop and strengthen relationships with community organizations
- Maintain the Norte Chain Hub and equipment located at Rotary Park
Norte Community Liaison -
- Responsibilities Bike Library - June 6 - August 29th, 2024 (12 sessions)
- Be present at the Norte Chain Hub from 10:00 - 2:00 pm Thursdays
- Welcome and inform visitors
- Loan and accept Bike Library Bicycles
- Maintain inventory of bicycles, helmets, general supplies,
- Notify Norte HQ of bike repair needs, supplies, or facility needs
Balance Bike Club - June 6 - August 29th, 2024 (12 sessions)
- Deliver weekly Balance Bike Club meet-ups
- Thursday mornings from 10:30 am - 11:30 am
Lead weekly Community Slow Rolls
Thursday evenings from 5:45 - 7:15 pm

- Coach Summer Bike Camp
- Coach Spring and Fall (MTB or ABC)
- Learn to Ride Lessons - by appointment (June - August)
- Help secure other lead and assistant coaches for Elk Rapids programs
Structure - With the Norte Executive Director, the Norte Staff, and other Community Liaisons when appropriate:
- Attend coach training Attend an in-person spring, summer, and fall meeting at Norte HQ or in Elk Rapids
- Attend bi-weekly 20-minute Zoom meetings to discuss programs & progress
- Complete event and program assessments within 7 days
- Most program and event communications to media outlets, schools, participants, and volunteers will come directly from Norte
- This role may include other duties as assigned. Norte reserves the right to modify the position and/or the duties and responsibilities, as needed, to meet organizational and unique community needs best.
- Classification: Class 4 position - part-time, non-exempt
- Wage: $25 per hour Approximate Hours Per Week by Role: Community Liaison Position June, July, and August - 6 per week - approximately 80 hours total
- Learn to Ride Lessons - (June, July, August) - 45 minutes each
- ABC (Spring or Fall) 16 hours
- MTB (Spring or Fall) 22 hours
- Summer camp coach 18 or 30 hours per camp week
