DESCRIPTION:Heading into its ninth year\, the Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council's Ice Breaker Winter Speaker Series has developed a strong reputation and hearty following. Bringing warm conversations on hot topics to the community\, this series is the perfect way to heat up during the cold winter months. All series events are held at the Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council office\, downtown Petoskey from 12 noon - 1 pm. Space is limited\, so call (231) 347-1181 to reserve your spot! \n\nIn Situ Burning as a\n\nPollution Response Tactic\n\n in the Great Lakes\n\nThe United States Coast Guard is responsible for the planning and preparedness to respond to oil spills and hazardous substance incidents in the marine environment\, ensuring all appropriate response tactics are considered for removal of pollutants.  Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste Marie\, in conjunction with the Northern Michigan Area Committee\, has an ongoing effort to explore the feasibility of using In Situ (on-site) Burning as a pollution response tactic in the Straits of Mackinac and other Michigan waters.
