SUMMARY:The Mick Tennis Tournament
DESCRIPTION:The Mick: January 25-26\, 2019\n\nThe field is set for the 2nd annual "The Mick" tennis tournament\, which features top high school players from Northern Michigan. The tournament is named after Chris "Mick" Michalowski to recognize all he has done and continues to do for tennis in Northern Michigan. Mick coached hundreds of junior tennis players during his years at the Resort\, resulting in 25 state champions. He was also named Michigan's Tennis Professional of the Year on multiple occasions.\n\nThe Mick is a mixed competition in which a male and female player are on a combined team and represent their respective high schools. The format is similar to the Hopman Cup\, a team tennis event of the International Tennis Federation. Each match-up between the two teams consists of one women's singles match\, one men's singles match\, and one mixed doubles match.\n\nPlayers are invited to participate based on their skill ability and for displaying a high level of sportsmanship. Returning are last year's inaugural Mick Champions: Paige Fischer and Alex Gerling (Traverse City West). The field is rounded out by Sophie Jackson and James Turner (Traverse City Central)\, Lexi Lewis and Adam Chittle (St. Francis)\, Regan O'Connor and Ryan O'Connor (Traverse City Central)\, Elyse Olivier and Alec Olivier (Marquette)\, and Lucy Chamberlin (Harbor Springs) and Jack Fischer (Traverse City West).\n\nThe first round begins Friday\, January 25\, at 6 p.m. at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. Play resumes Saturday\, January 26\, at noon\, with the championship round scheduled for 7 p.m.
