DESCRIPTION:The Music House Museum is proud to present the 1920 silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari accompanied by Interlochen Arts Academy Staff Pianist\, Steve Larson and Percussionist Keith Aleo on October 25\, 2025\, at 7:00PM\n\nThe Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is a 1920 German silent horror film directed by Robert Wiene and written by Hans Janowitz and Carl Mayer. The quintessential work of early German Expressionist cinema\, it tells the story of a hypnotist (Werner Krauss) who uses a somnambulist (Conrad Veidt) to commit murders. The film features a dark\, twisted visual style\, with sharp-pointed forms\; oblique\, curving lines\; structures and landscapes that lean and twist in unusual angles\; and shadows and streaks of light painted directly onto the sets.\n\nThe Cabinet of Dr. Caligari will be accompanied by long-time Music House contributor\, Interlochen pianist Steve Larson on our nine-foot Baldwin Grand Piano\, with guest Interlochen percussionist Keith Aleo on a wide range of traditional and non-traditional percussion instruments.\n\nSteve Larson has played in recitals and chamber music festivals throughout the Midwest including the Absolutely Amadeus festival\, the Manitou Music Festival and Chamber Music North. As a dance accompanist\, Mr. Larson served as company pianist for the Milwaukee Ballet and has played for Minnesota Dance Theater\, Alaska Dance Theater\, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago\, Ballet Hispanico and others.\n\nKeith A. Aleo has a multifaceted career as a performer\, educator\, and administrator. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Miami\, Aleo has served on the percussion faculty of the Boston Conservatory\, the University of Connecticut\, and the University of Miami.
