DESCRIPTION:"\nPreserving the Past - Planting the Future: \n\nThe Evolution of The Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park\n"\n\nSpeaker:Karen Schmidt\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n		\n			\n			Karen Schmidt's presentation will cover the history and role of the Traverse City State Hospital's farm and the Botanic Garden's progress in the creation of a public garden at the site of the former farm. Using past and present photos\, you will see the many ways the garden has incorporated the site's history into this unique garden.\n\n			  \n\n			Karen worked in the field of education for 35 years\, as a speech therapist\, teacher\, learning disability consultant and elementary school principal. She has a B.A.\, M.A. and Ed.Sp. degree in the field of education. At her retirement in 2000 she joined the board of the newly formed Botanical Garden Society of NW Michigan and has served as board chair for the past ten years.\n			\n		\n	\n\n\n\n\n\nAdmission by Donation\n\n\n\nSeating limited to first 100 people to arrive.
