SUMMARY:Green ER - Author Carol Trembath Speaks
DESCRIPTION:Green ER is excited to co-sponsor and bring back to Elk Rapids\, Michigan children's author\, Carol Trembath. Carol's presentation is part of the Green ER celebration of its tenth anniversary as an organization. Carol will be speaking to students at both Lakeland Elementary and Mill Creek Elementary about her new children's book Stepping Stones. The public is invited to attend any of the three school presentations on March 20 at either Lakeland Elementary (9:30 and 10:30) or at Mill Creek Elementary (1:30). Carol's hope is that young readers of her first book Water Walkers\, and the sequel Stepping Stones\, will become more aware of Native People's teachings and become more involved in protecting the environment. Both stories are award-winning picture books about an Ojibway girl whose family members are walking around Lake Superior (Water Walkers) and Lake Michigan (Stepping Stones) to raise awareness about the harm being done to the Great Lakes. On May 20\, community members are invited to meet Josephine Mandamin\, Water Walkers founder and previous Green ER guest\, who will return to Elk Rapids to conduct a water blessing. The grandmother in the story Water Walkers is based on Josephine. Both Water Walkers and Stepping Stones will also be available for sale at each of the elementary schools and a book signing will be held on the day of Carol's visit. Hardcover books are $20 and paperback books are $12. Please contact Kim Ranger at kranger@erschools.com for further information.
