DESCRIPTION:NORTH CENTRAL OFFERS FREE EDUCATION WORKSHOPS\n\nNorth Central Michigan College's Corporate and Community Education (CCE) department is offering free workshops on food\, farms and gardens this August\, September and October. Seating is limited\, and you must register in advance.\n\nOn August 7 from 7 - 9 p.m. Matt Killman\, formerly of Mackinaw Trail Winery\, will present "Dessert and Fruit Wines" where he will demonstrate how to make win from fruit other than grapes. Learn how to make port and other dessert wine making. \n\nOn August 15 from 6 - 9 p.m. Mel Disselkoen\, a 40-year veteran beekeeper\, will present: "Farming Honeybee Livestock for Next Year's Bees."  Learn how to maintain a healthy and productive hive. Sponsored in conjunction with the Little Traverse Bee Guild.\n\nOn August 21 from 7 - 9 p.m.\, join Matt Killman once again as he reviews the "Pre-Harvest Checklist." Ensure you have what you need to run a successful harvest at your winery or at home. This class will cover everything from yeast selection and equipment tuning\, to labware calibration and cleaning.\n\nOn September 5\, 12 and 19 from 7   9 p.m.\, Marilynn Smith\, expert mycologist\, will offer "Identifying and Harvesting Northern Michigan Fungi." There will there will be classroom study of edible and poisonous mushrooms in our area\, as well as field trips to collect and identify fungi in the field.\n\nOn October 7 from 7   9 p.m. join beekeepers from across the Tip of the Mitt at the "Natural Beekeeper" presentation to hear from renowned bee expert Ross Conrad. He will discuss Organic Approaches to Modern Apiculture.
