SUMMARY:Art Campers' Mosaic Mural To Be Unveiled
DESCRIPTION:The mosaic mural of ceramic tiles created by campers in July's Art Rapids! Art Camp will be unveiled at 6 pm August 25 at the Walk of Art in Elk Rapids Day Park on South Bay Shore Drive. Fifteen students\, ages 7 to 12\, designed\, sculpted\, and painted the clay tiles over four days of instruction and guidance by clay artist Phil Wilson of Traverse City's Blackbird Arts and Blackbird instructor Melissa Johnson. The camp is sponsored by Art Rapids! under its ongoing Education Program\, directed by Education Chair Barbara Johnson of Kewadin.  The mural consists of 72 tiles and a ceramic border\, all designed and produced by the campers\, and later kiln-fired and assembled by Wilson.  It will hang for the remainder of this season in the Day Park\, as part of Art Rapids! Walk of Art sculpture gallery. At season's end in October\, it will be moved for permanent display at an indoor location in Elk Rapids\, Johnson said.
