November 1, 2017, Petoskey, MI- The Salvation Army of Petoskey is kicking off their 2017 Red Kettle Campaign at Oleson’s Food Store at 2000 US 131 in Petoskey, MI from 11 AM- 1 PM on Friday, November 10, 2017. Mayor John Murphy, Red Kettle Campaign Chairman, urges residents to come out and support local families in need. Santa will also be there for pictures along with cookies, cider and Susan Melton from 102.9 Big Country Hits.
Mayor John Murphy says “This is a great opportunity for everyone in the community to show generosity to those less fortunate. While we celebrate the festivities of Christmas, please remember the many less fortunate and give to the Red Kettle Campaign. Though it may be a simple gesture, your donation goes a long way in helping others as Red Kettle funds support many Salvation Army programs that are so greatly needed throughout the year”.
The Red Kettle Kick-off marks the beginning of the bell-ringing season for The Salvation Army with locations spread throughout Emmet, Charlevoix and Antrim Counties. The 2017 season goal is to raise $95,000. All of the money raised stays local and makes a huge impact on the lives of many hard working families who are struggling to make ends meet by providing them many essential needs such as heat and electricity. Without assistance, many families will have to choose between having food for their children, staying warm, and having a roof over their head. The Salvation Army also provides holiday assistance to low-income families including food vouchers for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, and toys for children who might otherwise not receive any gifts.
Envoy Greg Irwin says “We seek to provide kindness and generosity to folks that are hurting this Christmas. If we can help ease the struggle and impart a bit of joy this holiday season by such simple acts as providing a Christmas meal to a needy family or a toy to a precious child on Christmas morning then we are compelled by love to help as many as possible this Christmas season. To accomplish this we need your help. Anne Franke was quoted as saying “No one has ever become poor by giving”. Please help us be someone’s miracle this Christmas and all year round by your generous support of our red kettle campaign”.
